About Tamarind Falls (Sept Cascades)
Tamarind Falls, also called Tamarin Falls, is a series of seven cascades on the Rivière Tamarin in southwest Mauritius. The falls lie about two kilometres northwest of Mare aux Vacoas, one of the island’s large lakes. Rather than a single drop, the site is a chain of waterfalls along the river. The falls are also known locally as Sept Cascades, a name referring to the seven successive cascades.
This natural landmark is in the island’s upland interior, where the river runs through a landscape distinct from the coastal lagoons. Its seven cascades give the site its characteristic stepped form, while the nearby lake provides a geographic landmark for locating the falls.
