About Bras d’Eau National Park
Bras d’Eau National Park lies in northeastern Mauritius near Poste Lafayette and Roches Noires. The National Parks and Conservation Service says it covers about 497 hectares and includes patches of native vegetation, endemic birds and historic remains from a former sugar mill and settlement. The park’s Mare Sarcelle wetland supports mangroves, native plants and migratory birds, and the authority identifies hiking and birdwatching as suitable activities in the area.
The official park page describes two routes: the Coq des Bois Trail to Mares Chevrettes and an extension called the Coq de Bois Loop. The trail from the visitor centre is described as a fairly easy five-kilometre return walk, though conditions and signage can vary. This is a quieter outing for walkers and nature watchers; wear suitable shoes and take water. Check the National Parks and Conservation Service for current access information, and stay on designated trails to protect the forest and wetland habitats.
