About Sagar Shiv Mandir

Sagar Shiv Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, built on the small island of Goyave de Chine just off Poste de Flacq on the east coast. The lagoon and mangroves surround it, which gives the temple its striking setting on the water, and a tall bronze-coloured statue of Shiva stands over the site.

The temple was built in 2007 and is a working place of worship for the Hindu community of the area. It is also visited by many tourists, and it is often compared with the Temple in the Sea in Trinidad.

Remove your shoes before entering the temple buildings, dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered, and keep quiet near anyone at prayer. The temple sits close to the resorts of Belle Mare and Poste de Flacq, so it makes an easy short stop on a drive along the east coast.
