About Central Flacq Market

Central Flacq Market, in the town of Centre de Flacq in the east of the island, is the largest outdoor market in Mauritius. It is an everyday market for local shoppers rather than a tourist attraction, which is exactly why it is worth the trip: stallholders call out their prices over piles of fresh fruit and vegetables, and the smell of street food cooking drifts between the rows.

Besides produce, there are stalls of clothing, household goods and souvenirs. Wednesday and Sunday are the main market days, when every stall is open and the street food stands are at their busiest, so plan a visit for one of those mornings.

The town is a short drive inland from the resorts of Belle Mare and Poste de Flacq, so a morning at the market pairs well with a beach afternoon on the east coast.
