About Grande Montagne Nature Reserve
Grande Montagne Nature Reserve protects a restored remnant of native forest in the highlands of Rodrigues. Rare plants conserved here include Ramosmania rodriguesii, Hibiscus liliiflorus and Eugenia rodriguesensis. The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation and the Rodrigues Forestry Department work on restoration, and a visitors’ centre is located at the entrance on the main road between Mont Lubin and Pointe Cotton.
The reserve is open to the public for guided tours from Monday to Saturday, with regular tour times at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. Tours at other times can be arranged by reservation through the managing organisation. A visit focuses on forest restoration and Rodrigues’ endemic plants, with the chance to see conservation work taking place in the reserve.
