About Blue Bay Marine Park

Blue Bay Marine Park is a protected area on the southeast coast of Mauritius, near Blue Bay and Mahébourg. The government’s Marine Conservation Division says the park was proclaimed a national park in 1997 and designated a marine park in 2000. It is also listed as a wetland of international importance. The park protects a marine ecosystem that includes coral reefs and associated plants and animals, and visitors experience it from the water through permitted activities such as snorkelling and boat trips.

The marine authority manages the area and regulates activities through permits. Visitors should use authorised operators, avoid standing on or touching coral, and follow instructions from park staff and boat crews. Conditions can change with weather and sea state, so check locally before entering the water. This is a good choice for travellers interested in marine life, but it is a conservation area rather than an unrestricted playground. Keep the visit low-impact and confirm current access and activity rules with the Marine Conservation Division or Blue Bay Marine Centre.
