About Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark
Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark is a geological attraction in the Chamarel hills of south-west Mauritius. Its low, banded dunes show shades including red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow. The colours formed as volcanic material weathered over geological time, leaving a distinctive landscape set apart from the island's coastal scenery. The dunes are one part of a larger geopark with other nature and heritage experiences on site.
Visitors can follow the 3 km walking route from the main entrance to the dunes, or drive along the park road and park nearby. The waterfall viewpoints are along the route before the dunes. At the dunes, stay on the paths and view the coloured layers from designated observation points.
