About Port Mathurin Market

Port Mathurin Market is the main market of Rodrigues, in the island's small capital next to the bridge near the post office. It is the best place on the island to buy fresh produce and souvenirs, with stalls of local fruit and vegetables, spices, regional foods and handmade goods, plus shops selling clothes, trinkets and art.

The market is open through the week, but Saturday is market day. Rodriguans come in from across the island to shop and catch up with friends, and the place is at its liveliest early on Saturday morning, so go early for the best choice.

It makes a good start to a walk around Port Mathurin, the island's administrative centre and harbour town, where the bus station also stands.
