About Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum is in the Mauritius Institute Building on Chaussée, near the Jardin de la Compagnie in central Port Louis. The Mauritius Museums Council describes four permanent galleries covering the island’s natural history, with displays on mammals and birds, marine life, geology and the dodo. The collection offers an indoor cultural stop for visitors exploring the capital and its nearby museums and historic sites.
The Museums Council publishes current visiting hours and contact information on its official page. Check those details before visiting, as schedules can change; the council states that the museum is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Allow time to explore the galleries at your own pace, and verify any temporary exhibitions or access arrangements with the museum before you go.
